The Team at APC

Pete Bach is a life long resident of Wadsworth.  His interest and love of fitness started while working out doing high school sports and has continues to this day.  Pete has competed in road runs, triathlons, karate, and long distance cycling.  He has been instructing exercises classes including Bootcamp and Spinning over the last 6 years.  He is a CrossFit Level 1 Trainer.  Pete was introduced to CrossFit several years ago but never realized the whole concept until Dr. Bupp and Chris Zamudio brought it to the Superior Health Club.  He absolutely loves CrossFit and is excited to help people improve their health and fitness through the whole package it brings.

Heidi Bogue, a CrossFit Level 1 Trainer, has always enjoyed sports – from judo, to track and field, and even marathons.  She is a wife and an active mother of six children who discovered CrossFit as she was attempting to lose some “baby weight.”  It was love at first WOD.  She has embraced CrossFit ever since her first power clean. Now, about 2 years later, she finds herself in the best shape of her life, several pounds lighter, a few sizes smaller and completely re-energized physically, spiritually, and emotionally.  Most importantly, Heidi loves the challenges in CrossFit and enjoys introducing others to a fitness program that really works!  She is privileged to serve APC in the capacity of Director of Development.

Dr. Brandon Bupp, Doctor of Chiropractic, is the owner of Advanced Health and Wellness Center, Superior Health Club, and Advanced Performance Crossfit.  Dr. Bupp has been studying health and wellness all of his adult life.  His extreme passion for health, wellness, and fitness began as a young athlete while in high school at Orrville.  His passion was strengthened as a collegiate athlete at Baldwin Wallace College where he studied exercise physiology while playing football.  He then went on to chiropractic school at the prestigious Palmer College of Chiropractic.  He has extensive expertise in treating sports related injuries and maximizing fitness and athletic performance.

Advanced Performance CrossFit is proud to have Nick Burton as our CrossFit Membership Director and Endurance Director and Coach.  Nick, a graduate of Wadsworth High School, has been trying to better himself, as well as others, through various forms of athletics.  Some of Nick’s accomplishments outside of our box include the Akron Half Marathon (1:13), Columbus Full Marathon (2:41) and the Tough Mudder (1:33), a 12 mile obstacle course designed by British Special Forces.  While trying to accomplish his own athletic goals, Nick uses his knowledge to help motivate and better others.  Nick has been a Division 1 head coach for high school cross-country and is currently the distance track coach at Wadsworth High School.

Nick’s passion for running and CrossFit makes him ideally suited to coach endurance sports in a CrossFit style.  CrossFit just makes sense to Nick.  He has experienced first hand the benefits of “constantly varied functional movements performed at high intensity.”  With the CrossFit Endurance program, Nick has the opportunity to mix the two things he loves most: training and teaching.  His upbeat attitude and hard work ethic has brought himself personal success as well as provided results for all of his athletes and clients.  Nick strongly believes that with the proper education and positive motivation, anything is possible.

Aaron Carpenter is a CrossFit Level 1 Trainer and has been involved with sports his entire life.  Aaron was introduced to CrossFit by APC owner, Dr. Bupp, and hasn’t looked back since.  He loves the constantly varied programming and the functionality of CrossFit as it relates to everyday life, as well as the accountability and the tight-knit APC community.  As a coach, Aaron loves to motivate and challenge people so they can see the kind of results CrossFit has brought to his own life.  Aaron lives in Akron with his wife Erin, also a CrossFitter, and their two dogs.

Vinny Caruso, a CrossFit Level 1 Trainer, has been CrossFitting since April 2012. Vinny recently graduated from the University of Mount Union with a bachelor’s degree in Religious Studies with minors in Communications and Psychology. After playing football in high school, he consistently exercised and lifted weights but was not satisfied with his routine or his results. Fellow trainer Tom Karos introduced Vinny to CrossFit and he’s been hooked ever since. After just six months at APC he registered for his certificate course to better understand the functionality and effectiveness of CrossFit. Now in the best shape of his life, he continues to challenge himself in the gym and is constantly trying to improve his skills and lead others to improve as well. Vinny looks up to the great coaches who laid the foundation at APC and he continues to learn from them while progressing each day and striving to impart CrossFit’s values and methodology on others.

Tom Karos ,also a CrossFit Level 1 Trainer, has been an athlete his entire life, earning ten varsity letters in football, wrestling, and track and field.  After leading as captain on the varsity football and track teams for three years, he continued his athletic career by playing football for the University of Mount Union.   After multiple injuries, Tom focused his efforts in track and field breaking two school records in the the hammer throw and weight throw and leading as captain his senior year.  Upon graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, he is now sharing his talents with the APC community as our Director of Performance and Programming, focusing on continually training our coaches and programming the WODs for the box.  He plans on furthering his education by returning to graduate school in the near future.  CrossFit, as a methodology, encompasses everything he has focused on for the past few years of study and practice. He appreciates the emphasis on developing the functional capacity of the athlete as well as keeping the competitive edge that is needed to achieve personal records and continue improving. Tom is passionate about conveying the CrossFit message and helping others understand how to effectively exercise and improve themselves as an athlete.

Christine Fajt, a current Instructor in Training at APC, has worked in the gym environment for the past eight years.  She has embraced athletic endeavors her whole life starting with soccer at the young age of five.  In middle school, she followed in her sister’s footsteps and joined the cross-country team.  As a high schooler, Christine devoted her time to running spending all four years on the Varsity team and contributing to her team’s success in winning the Suburban League for two years and subsequently qualifying for the district and regional competitions.  Individually, Christine achieved the title of First Team All-League for two years, Second Team All-League for two years and led as co-captain during her senior year.  Since her high school days, Christine has participated in many road races including the Strongsville, the Columbus, and the Cleveland half marathons as well as the Cleveland full marathon in 2011.  Christine loves feeling empowered physically and mentally through CrossFit and enjoys helping others reach their fitness goals to ultimately live happier and healthier lives.  Through CrossFit, Christine finds that it’s easier to stay motivated.  After all, CrossFit provides the structure, the accountability, and the encouragement from others who are also completely sold out to functional fitness.

Coach Seth Hill grew up in nearby Hinckley and is currently a Wadsworth resident along with his wife Carmen and two great kids.  Seth began his CrossFit journey as APC was first started back in January of 2012.  As a natural athlete, Seth was crushing WODs in a very short time and reaping the rewards of his fitness.  He fell in love with the camaraderie and the friendly competition.  He never knew working out could be so much fun!As a coach, he enjoys helping others achieve their goals and change their lives.

alex headshot bwAlex Hunt has been involved in sports his entire life.  Throughout high school he earned multiple varsity letters in football, wrestling, and track, and was captain of both the football and wrestling teams.  He has always been very passionate about health and fitness, believing that our bodies, our lives are a true gifts from above.  His overall appreciation for life lead him to enlist in the Marine Corps right out of high school.  He is very passionate about our country and its foundation of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for all people.  Currently, he is an active duty reservist serving out of 3rd BN 25th Marines Brook Park, Ohio.

The military introduced him to the Crossfit methodology, since it teaches to be physically and mentally prepared for all occasions.  After his first CrossFit workout he was hooked.  Being a fitness fanatic, Alex has spent a great deal of time studying the effects of different diets and proper nutrition on the body.  He has experience in conducting fitness consultations and is passionate about helping people take the first step to achieving their goals with encouragement and proper instruction.

After his very first workout at APC, he knew right then that this was the type of environment that would cause people to achieve things they would have never thought achievable.  Since, he has spent a great deal of time educating himself as a coach and has obtained his Level I CrossFit Trainer Certification.  Coach Alex is thrilled to be part of APC and we are also excited to have him on board.  He looks forward to teaching people how to move their bodies the way we were made to move and encouraging them in their pursuit of overall health and fitness.



Brian Lavoie, also a CrossFit Level 1 Trainer, has been with APC since its inception.  Brian, raised in Wadsworth, has always enjoyed playing sports especially soccer and basketball.  He found CrossFit through one of our trainers and remembers his first WOD (Workout of the Day) including walking lunges with a 25 pound plate.  He found himself very sore for the next four days but kept coming back.  In fact, he loved it so much and has not stopped.  In his own words, he’s “addicted” and finds himself in better shape now at 39 years of age than at 27.  Brian is passionate about CrossFit and hopes to continue working out for the rest of his life.  He has an amazing heart to coach athletes and always comes along side with support, encouragement and practical help.

Jamie MooreJamie Moore is APC’s Kids & Teens Coordinator.  As a wife, mother of three (ages 7, 5, and 4) and a professional swim coach, Jamie understands the developmental needs of our younger CrossFitters.

As a collegiate athlete, Coach Jamie enjoyed the  training, competition, comraderie and support she and her teammates shared day-in and day-out.  Upon graduation, Jamie had the opportunity to coach at Standford University’s Swim camp which led to coaching age group swimmers locally. Since then, Jamie has coached novice swimmers as well as experienced high school and college students.

Following the birth of her youngest child, Jamie tried various workout routines on her own as well as group fitness classes with success, but still felt stagnant. Then she tried CrossFit.  She was amazed by the energizing vibe of the CrossFit community.  The passion and commitment to helping individuals achieve their own personal fitness goals is what separates CrossFit from traditional gyms.  Her passion for CrossFit led her to attaining her Level 1 Certification and to coaching at her previous box. 

Adam Moravitz is currently a CrossFit Level 1 Certified trainer residing in Wadsworth and has been coaching physical fitness for over eight years, coaching Crossfit specific training since 2008.  He has served in the Army for over twenty years and is currently on Active Duty with the Army National Guard in Wooster, Ohio. In 2009, he incorporated CrossFit into the training regimen within his National Guard unit which directly resulted in a 25% overall increase of Army Physical Fitness Test scores within six months. Adam is inspired by seeing the physical and emotional improvements of those he coaches and is passionate about helping athletes understand the functional aspect of what CrossFit brings to conditioning. One of Adam’s primary motivations for coaching CrossFit and living an active lifestyle is to continuously challenge and improve himself and others.  Adam and his wife Jill are proud to be raising two young daughters in an active environment by teaching them the importance of overall fitness and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Troy Naftzger, also a Level 1 CrossFit Trainer, began his career as a physician assistant in 2003 upon graduating from the Cuyahoga Community College. He later earned his Masters of Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Nebraska in 2007. He also has served as a treatment supervisor and physician assistant for the U.S. Army since 1994, where he has significant experience in emergency and routine medical care.  Troy has been in the US Army for 17 years, on active duty for four years at Ft Bragg North Carolina with the 82D Airborne Division and in the Reserves for 13 years and counting.  He has deployed overseas twice to Israel, Sinai Egypt and the Gaza and is currently a Captain in the AMEDD Department.  As a PA, Troy has been in Orthopedic Surgery for ten years with a focus in complex shoulder reconstruction.  He has worked as a consultant for Tournier working on outcomes study for primary and reverse total shoulders.  Currently Troy works at Advanced Health & Wellness and helps hundreds of people through expert diagnosis and rehabilitation.  He absolutely loves CrossFit as a way of life and can be found training hard at 5:30 am.  He enjoys helping others on their CrossFit journey and always brings great intensity to his WODs.

IMG_1975Amber Polen, a CrossFit Level 1 trainer and certified group exercise instructor, has always been involved in sports.  As a child, growing up in Kenton, Ohio, she was incredibly active!  Amber grew up playing varsity basketball, volleyball, softball and track all four years of high school. One of Amber’s top accomplishments is holding the standing record in basketball for Kenton’s all-time leading scorer. Amber went off to college to play basketball and volleyball and received her B.S. in Nutrition from Bowling Green State University.  Coach Polen was introduced to CrossFit by Dr. Brandon Bupp.  At the time she didn’t believe a workout could be as hard as everyone made it out to be until she tried it herself.  She was quickly drawn to the challenge and variety of CrossFit.  Yet for Amber, that isn’t even the best part. Being a part of such an awesome community and watching everyone’s progress week by week is what keeps her coming back for more.  She is addicted to CrossFit and is amazed at how CrossFit has improved her physically and mentally. Coach Amber is excited and thankful to be a part of the dynamic APC team and to use her knowledge of fitness and nutrition to help others.
