January’s Athlete of the Month is Kyle Pelfrey

Tell us a little about yourself.. (Age, Family, Job, Sports, Interests, ETC.) *
I am 35 and married with two boys (3 and half and 8 months). I love to hang with my family and watch sports when I can. I am also one of those obsessed golf guys. I work at Associated Property Management.

When did you become a member at APC? *
January 17th, 2018

What made you join CrossFit? *
My workouts were getting stale and there was no diversity in anything I was doing which meant no results. I have always wanted to try CrossFit but thought that I needed to be in great shape before I could join. Extremely happy that I just took the leap and now, like many of us, I am addicted.
What is your proudest CrossFit moment /achievement (PR, WOD, LIFT, ETC.)? *
I have improved greatly in every movement since the start but it was nice to break the 400lb barrier on deadlift.

What is you favorite/least favorite WOD? *
Favorite: I am a fan of any WOD with rowing because I am actually decent at it.
Least favorite: Where do I start….I would have to say anything involving burpees or thrusters.

What are your short/long term goals? *
One of the main goals when joining was to lose weight. I am down 35lbs since last January. I would like to keep that going and to keep getting stronger.

What is something we might not know about you? *
I played football at Mount Union.

What advice would you give to a newbie just joining CrossFit? *

  1. Never be afraid to start. after committing, I realized that not everyone was a games athlete and it is not nearly as intimidating as I thought it would be.
  2. Seek out athletes that are better than you and pick their brain. Also be sure to ask the coaches for help, they are awesome and are always willing to help. Everyone at APC wants everyone to succeed.

  1. Tell us a little about yourself…
    I’m 23, an LPN, and live in Wadsworth with my fiancee (Justin) and 3 cats. My favorite thing to do is take naps with my cats.

  3. What made you join CrossFit?
    I told Justin he had to stop bugging me about doing it when I gave it a try and didn’t like it…
  4. What is your proudest CrossFit moment/achievement (PR, WOD, LIFT, ETC.)?
    Beating Justin in todays workout. Also, pushing myself from struggling to come 3 days a week to feeling bad if I’m not there at least 4 times a week.
  5. What is your favorite/least favorite WOD?
    I hate running… a lot…
  6. What are your short/long term goals?
    I’d really like to be able to do more gymnastics
  7. What is something we might not know about you?
    I have never been an athlete person, I liked band, and exercise has never been my thing
  8. What advice would you give to a newbie just joining CrossFit?
    Just keep pushing through every time you don’t want to come, because it does get better and easier.
