January’s Athlete of the Month is Kyle Pelfrey

Tell us a little about yourself.. (Age, Family, Job, Sports, Interests, ETC.) *
I am 35 and married with two boys (3 and half and 8 months). I love to hang with my family and watch sports when I can. I am also one of those obsessed golf guys. I work at Associated Property Management.

When did you become a member at APC? *
January 17th, 2018

What made you join CrossFit? *
My workouts were getting stale and there was no diversity in anything I was doing which meant no results. I have always wanted to try CrossFit but thought that I needed to be in great shape before I could join. Extremely happy that I just took the leap and now, like many of us, I am addicted.
What is your proudest CrossFit moment /achievement (PR, WOD, LIFT, ETC.)? *
I have improved greatly in every movement since the start but it was nice to break the 400lb barrier on deadlift.

What is you favorite/least favorite WOD? *
Favorite: I am a fan of any WOD with rowing because I am actually decent at it.
Least favorite: Where do I start….I would have to say anything involving burpees or thrusters.

What are your short/long term goals? *
One of the main goals when joining was to lose weight. I am down 35lbs since last January. I would like to keep that going and to keep getting stronger.

What is something we might not know about you? *
I played football at Mount Union.

What advice would you give to a newbie just joining CrossFit? *

  1. Never be afraid to start. after committing, I realized that not everyone was a games athlete and it is not nearly as intimidating as I thought it would be.
  2. Seek out athletes that are better than you and pick their brain. Also be sure to ask the coaches for help, they are awesome and are always willing to help. Everyone at APC wants everyone to succeed.

BROOKE EATMON

COACH

Brooke grew up in western North Carolina and graduated from Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA. She got her degree in graphic design. While at Liberty, she met her husband, Josh, who is now the associate pastor at Crossroads Community Church. They have a 6 year old daughter named Skye who loves CrossFit just as much as her mom.

They moved to Ohio in 2012. Brooke and Josh began CrossFit August of that year and in her words “it saved (her) life”.

“I was depressed and unmotivated to do anything. CrossFit was the jumpstart I needed to get my life and mind back on track.”

She’s been doing CrossFit ever since and got her CFL1 Trainer Certification in July of 2017 and has been coaching at APC ever since.

“The best thing about being a CrossFit trainer is getting to see people achieve things the NEVER thought they could do and pushing those boundaries beyond their expectations.”

Beyond coaching, Brooke is an Independent Sales Consultant with Norwex. She not only helps people radically change and improve their fitness levels but also helps them create safe havens in their homes with chemical free cleaning products

Kelsey Wilson

COACH

While attending Ohio Northern University, Kelsey started a “CrossFit Club” where her love for coaching blossomed. She loves helping people achieve goals and says that being at APC is always the highlight of her day. Kelsey and her Fiancé, Jedd, are integral parts of our community and we are lucky to have them!

Coach Brandon is a lifelong competitive athlete and has been CrossFitting since 2010.  He is a Health and Phys-Ed teacher at Wadsworth Local Schools.  Brandon is an enthusiastic student of the CrossFit methodology and we are lucky to have his wealth of knowledge.
